My best friend and I have been obsessed with the miniseries for years. One of the older female-demographic tv networks used to play it every year during superbowl (they called it "the superbowl of miniseries"). The over-the-top camp factor is hard to beat. So I finally recently decided to read the books and holy cow do they beat the miniseries out of the park! I could not put them down. Lace 2 is NOTHING like the film. So if you're expecting the same storyline, you will not get it. But should you be disappointed? NO. Because it's better. The thing about these books is that they're marketed as romance when really, they're not about romance. They're about a group of women, their friendship and their empowerment. As well as Lilli and her struggle. Romance is in there, but it's not the main focus. In fact, nearly every man in these books is terrible. Not only just godawful people, but bad in bed. These poor women! I mean, there's a good amount of sex, but most of it seems to be traumatic. Is this common in romance novels? Maybe I'm aghast because up until now I've never read one. Anyway, Jezebel described Lace as "bonkers" and I'd have to agree. But only in the best way possible. It's glam, it's camp, it's totally dramatic and over the top.

I chanced on Lace when I picked it up at a library book sale. I was way too young to be reading it but even then I understood that what I was reading was good (if a bit racy). I've since reread the book at different periods in my life and it's always an interesting read. I love the characters, the storytelling is tight, and despite its length I find it to be thoroughly engrossing.

Not a terrible read. The book starts off a little slow but gets better. I would purchase from this seller again

Couldn't put it down. Nostalgic memories of the 70's and great for anyone who has found their long lost family. The friendship of women reminds me of sex and the city.
