Over the past few years Moon has come to be my favorite publisher of travel guidebooks. In this brave new world of instant access to online reviews I mainly rely on guidebooks to answer that most basic of questions, "Do I want to go?" And Moon does a great job of giving you a feel for a place, what kinds of experiences you'll find, how well suited it is to your kind of travel, and what types of food and lodging are available.The British Columbia Guide is no exception. With it's help I was able to decide "Yes, I want to visit" and where I want to spend my time on the island. My only suggestion - other than 'Buy this book' - is that you probably don't need to buy the Victoria & Vancouver Island guide if you buy this one.
It had some use, information in the whole book not one map, so when you look at a region you have no clue hoe to get there or if you have arrived
Moon offered lots of information on even the small towns and interesting things to see and do in them. It also had good information about hiking. You could use it to follow along the highway (I'm the navigator, my husband drives).
Good reference, but doesn't do a deep dive on anyplace. I guess I should have expected that. Still glad I got it - but the internet is a better place for more detailed information.

Often organized by US state, Mexican state, or Canadian province, they are well researched, beautifully constructed, comprehensive guides that offer travelers a guaranteed authentic experience.The real focus of a Moon guide is content, and this one is no exception. Above all, the writers and editors are concerned with providing the reader with a rich travel experience. What Moon guides lack in flashiness, they more than make up for in coverage.Vancouver and Victoria get the feature treatment that you would expect, but the neat thing about this book is that it gives you feature coverage of other, less well known places in British Columbia too. Who would have known that a road trip from Vancouver to Kamloops by car could be the highlight of your trip? This guide suggests that such a trip is worth your consideration.I would say that listings in the Moon guides are selective. There's no attempt to list all available options but, rather, to suggest some of the best. That could be problematic for some travelers depending on their taste. Price ranges of listings tend to be upper middle, and the authors do make note of special recommendations.Historical and cultural contexts are brief, and are really included simply to enhance the travel experience than to provide a detailed background. Despite the glossy color photography, these books are not particularly visual. The emphasis is definitely more on written content.
