My almost three-year-old son loves all kinds of trucks, like most little boys, so I searched for a truck book for him for Christmas. This one kept showing up in my list of recommendations based on my recent purchases so I decided to give it a chance and I purchased it. This is now one of his favorites and we have read it so many times since Christmas morning but he never gets tired of it! Even his twin sister likes it and we sit, read the book, and talk about the story throughout the day.At approximately 24 glossy board book pages, this book is a wonderful book for little boys or girls to read in the morning or at night. The story reads in a rhyming way which I love because I think it makes it more fun to read, especially if you are reading it all the time! Each set of pages contains about two sentences that ask kids to imagine how a certain type of truck goes to bed at night. The types of trucks mentioned in the book are diggers, dump trucks, garbage trucks, monster trucks, fire engines, snowplows, car transporters, tow trucks, cranes, tractors and semis so it would be perfect for kids with interests in one or more of those trucks. I think this book is great to feed kids' imaginations because it helps them wonder what trucks do after they've put in a long day's work. A lot of the pages even show the daddy or mommy trucks putting their kid trucks to bed.My kids love this book and I'm glad I purchased it because we have gotten a lot of use out of it so far! It makes a great bedtime story but can also be read during the day. If you have kids who love reading about big trucks or you just want a good bedtime story, I highly recommend this book!
This book is one the cutest childrens books I have ever read. It's very well written. It has rhymes that actually make sense and flow well. Perfect book for ages 2-5. Each page shows a different truck and their baby truck getting ready for bed or snuggling into the parent. I highly recommend this book. I am going to look into other books written by this author because it truly was a delight to read. Just get it! Especially if your child likes trucks.
Fabulous book for bed time. It keeps my 3 year old's interest but the rhymes and the way the story flows is perfect to mellow him out.He gets really excited about pointing random things out in the illustrations while I read anything, which I love, but not so much at bed time because I'm trying to calm him. He pointed things out in this book at first, but when I said the first, "good night, truck, goooodnight" he fell into the rhythm and instead of going bonkers for anything but the words he was waiting for that line about each truck. And he said each one calmer and calmer following my suit. This is definitely going to be a nightly ritual.
This is our second favorite nighttime themed book. The first is Time for Bed, which is very cute. This is an entirely different book, and definitely geared towards truck-loving toddlers. We often chose to read both books because our 19 month old can't decide which he wants. The colors are vibrant but still calming and appropriate for bedtime, but still beautiful. The book is a standard board book material and high quality. The illustrations are beautiful and fun. We all love this. The story imagines how every type of truck addresses bedtime. Like the photo shows the momma excavator hugging her baby from front to backhoe for his goodnight hug. The rhyming pattern is fun and easy to read, and my son loves it.I would recommend this book as part of any early toddler book collection, even if they aren't truck crazy! I just purchased one for a baby shower because we love it so much.
This is definitely not our favorite bedtime book. I thought it would be cute with all the trucks but some of the phases in the book just sound a little weird to me, the rhyming is off and some of the sentences are very awkward sounding. My husband hated reading this one so we don't really bother anymore, there are better books to read. We purchased it because Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site is such a huge hit with most kids and we liked the idea of a board book for our 1 year old son. He does not like to sit through this one. The artwork is cute though.
My 23 month old son loves trucks and likes this book, and we all like the illustrations. However, I think the written content could've been much better on some pages. There's some awkward phrasing, as if it was difficult to brainstorm the rhymes and the writer just threw something in to make it work. I think that Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site is much better and more thoughtfully written.
Well, I LOVE this book. My husband and adult son say "That's a LONG BOOK!" ... I think it's the right length for a single book "Good Night" ... my only complaint is that ALL of the trucks are boys - no girls :-( If you're trying to encourage a daughter, you might want to look for something else. I don't think that boys will even notice.
Some of these rhymes are ridiculously difficult to read aloud for the first several times. I don't know why I struggled with it so much, I'm well-read, read aloud all the time (I'm a teacher), and the words are all simple English words. Sooooo it's totally on me. HOWEVER, my son absolutely loves this book. He destroyed the first one, which we received as a gift, so I had to buy this one from Amazon. My son especially loves the little snow plows and the car transporter- he always laughs when he sees them! So cute. Love the book!
This book was a perfect choice for my 2 granddaughters, ages 2.5 and 3.5 (cousins), both of whom are crazy about trucks. We have to stop at every construction site we ever pass to more closely examine the trucks! From the 1st time we read this book together, it has become a favorite for both girls. The illustrations are colorful and bring all the trucks to life in a very entertaining way. The rhyming is so clever, and the vocabulary used is simple enough for young ones to understand while exposing them to new words as well. I will definitely be purchasing more books by this talented author/illustrator duo.
