I was bummed that the book was so short and didn't cover the history I was hoping it would cover. I grew up along the Lewis and Clark trail. You couldn't drive 50 miles without a roadside sign talking about when or why Lewis and Clark stopped there. This book skimmed my childhood in one page (Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington). It wasn't really good at labeling where (in modern day cities and rivers) where the expedition was. My 10 year old daughter's summary was it "was a bunch if Indian tribes and then they thought they got to the Pacific". Where is "The River of No Return" - famous for its "Hell's Canyon"? And what about the return trip? The history books are a little short on that themselves but I wanted to see a reference on the route they went back. I can say the beginning of the book was good, setting the foundation on why the expedition happened and the illustrations are good. Like my line of stars above, the book started out great and stopped short.

I love this story. My family is planning a major Lewis & Clark trip so we are reading as much as we can about the journey. We've read plenty of books, so there wasn't really anything new in here. But we love the format. Great drawings, etc. It's short, so you have to expect it to miss a lot, which it does. One complaint: While Sacagawea is credited for being the sister of Shoshone chief Cameahwait (he's the one who provided the expedition with much needed horses on their way west), her only thought in the book is to wonder if she can find potatoes to dig up. No talk of her rescuing L&C's journals as they went overboard, etc. No mention that her husband, Charbonneau was a complete coward and awful boatsman to boot. I think they could have tucked that in.The book does mention York being asked for his vote on where to winter (the first recorded vote of an African-American in U.S. history). If you are looking for a quick introduction to the trip, this is a nice one. I would have given it 5 stars if Sacagawea had more of a proper role.

Great book for kids in order to keep them reading and learning about history. Fast shipping You can't go wrong with this one.

Nice artwork and a little political commentary. I think its interesting to note that not all indians were 'friendly' which the book portraits, but also interesting when the expedition tells an indian 'this is our land now' and the indian says 'what are you talking about? no one owns it' haha. Brings up good topics to discuss with your children. I tell my daughter we stole this land fair and square!

My grandson loved this graphic novel. It offers so much more than the dull history books. There is a geography lesson in this book but let's not tell the kids. Let's just let them enjoy it.

My 10 year old son loved this book. Short and simple, but with plenty of detail for his homeschool US History studies. Helped bring history to life.

I purchased these for a teacher in my school district as requested. She has been very happy with them so far.

nice book
